Requesting citations in chat completions
citations is a top-level Seltz extension (not part of the standard OpenAI response). It is present whenever the underlying search returned URL-bearing sources, regardless of your prompt or response_format.
Each citation always carries a url. To also receive the source’s text, set include_content: true — then each citation includes a content field. Otherwise content is omitted.
include_content is a Seltz extension (default false):
